Won a unanimous $107 million jury verdict in California for two mining families who alleged that the county government improperly closed down their long-vested mine at the urging of a large competitor. Comprised mainly of lost-profit damages, the result was among the top 15 largest verdicts in the U.S. in 2017.

Won a unanimous defense jury verdict in North Carolina for a designer of medical devices for cancer therapy. The jury found that plaintiff had breached the parties’ contract, had competed unfairly, and should pay damages to our client.
Smith vs. SEECO, et al. – Little Rock, AR
Won a unanimous defense jury verdict in Arkansas rejecting claims for $300 million by a class of 12,000 royalty owners in the Fayetteville Shale play. We defended our energy client and its affiliates against class claims for post-production deductions. It was a rare class action trial and even rarer complete defense verdict.
